What are loose diamonds?

Loose diamonds are becoming popular year after year. There are certain advantages of having loose diamonds. Loose diamonds can be set up as any piece of jewelry she wants. When a buyer purchases loose diamonds, he has to consider 4 C’s: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat.

Cut:
The four features like style, shape, proportions and workmanship are significant when assessing a stone. Diamonds consist of clear crystalline carbon. The outer portion of the diamond is rough, and if that portion were peeled off, the stone would be as smooth as glass.

Loose Diamonds

The main diamond cuts are Emerald, Princess, Heart, Round, Pear, Marquise, and oval and modern round brilliant, radiant, and Trilliant. The emerald cut is considered a very elegant diamond cut. It contains triangular facades surrounding the stone which normally culminate on a flat top known as a table. The modern round brilliant diamond cut contains 58 of these triangular facades (33 above the middle of the stone and 25 below). The princess cut is a style for cutting square and rectangular stones to gain the maximum fire and brilliance by adding extra and improved faceting. The cut combines two methods: a step cut crown and a brilliant cut pavilion. The heart cut has a cleft in the wide end, and a softly tapered point at the narrow end. The heart shape is one of the best cuts for showing off the color of the diamond as it tends to enhance paler colors making them appear deeper. The pear cut also called a pendeloque, is actually a combination of the round brilliant cut and a marquise cut. Marquise cut is also known as fancy cut diamonds. They are cut in the same fashion as round brilliant diamonds.

Color:
Color refers as to how much yellow tinge is present in the diamond. The ideal diamond is colorless. Colorless diamonds are also fairly rare. The letters of the alphabet from D to Z are used in the color grading system for diamonds. The most valuable diamond has a grade of D, and so is absolutely colorless. Diamonds with the lowest color grade of X, Y and Z are less desirable and generally, less valuable than diamonds with a D, E, or F color grade. Diamonds that are highest up the color grading scale, such as D, E, and F are the most valuable.

Clarity:
Diamond clarity is a term used to describe the absence or presence of flaws inside or on the surface of a diamond or other gemstone. Diamonds with visual inclusions and blemishes, and those that are eye clean meaning that these are no inclusions or blemishes that can be seen with the naked eye. Clarity refers to the internal and external imperfections of the diamond. The best diamonds get a grade of FL or IF- Flawless or Internally Flawless meaning that it is perfect. A grade of I-1, I-2, I-3 means that the diamond is imperfect, with a grade of I-3 being the worst. Other grades are VVS1 and VVS2, which means that the diamond is very, very slightly imperfect; VS1 AND VS2 is very slightly imperfect; SI-1 and SI-2 means that the diamond is slightly imperfect.

Carat:
Carats are the unit of measurement for the weight of diamonds. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams. The weight of smaller diamonds is often expressed as points, not carats. There are 100 points in a carat.

Loose diamonds can be purchased online and at best prices. Any purchase of loose diamonds should be accompanied by a certificate of appraisal and value. The certificate describes the loose diamonds in terms of weight in carats, clarity, color and cut. When loose diamonds are accompanied by such a report, they are known as certified.
